Jeux de mailles glissées – Playing with slipped stitches

Ma copine Nathalie a tricoté ce joli col en mérinos moyen (2 pelotes de chaque coloris en gris anthracite et jaune).

My friend Nathalie knitted this pretty cowl in merino DK (2 balls of each colour in charcoal and yellow).

Nathalie a tricoté le col en rond, en changeant de couleur sur chaque rang, de la manière suivante :
Monter un nombre pair de mailles
Tour 1 (gris) : Tric toutes les mailles à l’endroit.
Tour 2 (jaune) : rép (1 m env, gl 1 m comme pour la tric à l’env avec le fil devant le travail) jusqu’à la fin du tour.
Tour 3 (gris) : Tric toutes les mailles à l’endroit.
Tour 4 (jaune) : rép (gl 1 m comme pour la tric à l’env avec le fil devant le travail, 1 m env) jusqu’à la fin du tour.

Nathalie knitted her cowl in the round, changeing colours on each round, as follows:
CO an even number of sts
Round 1 (grey) : K all stsRound 2 (yellow) : repeat (P1, sl 1 purlwise with yarn in front) to end of round
Round 3 (grey) : K all sts
Round 4 (yellow) : repeat (sl 1 purlwise with yarn in front, P1) to end of round

You might recognize this stitch pattern, since it was used in the popular Honey Cowl from Madelinetosh.

Ce point prend une toute autre dimension tricoté en deux couleurs. Nathalie dit qu’elle aime autant l’envers (les petits points) que l’endroit (où l’on voit les fils horizontaux en jaune devant les mailles glissées).

This stitch patterns takes on a whole new dimension when knitted in two colours. Nathalie says that she likes the wrong side (the small dots) just as much as the right side (where you see the yellow floats in front of the slipped stitches).

J’ai voulu voir ce que pouvait donner ce point tricoté en aller-retours, en tournant après chaque rang.

I wanted to see how the stitch pattern would behave if knitted flat, in rows back and forth.

Les explications du point tricoté « à plat » sont comme suit :
Rg 1 (sur l’end) : Tric toutes les mailles à l’endroit.
Rg 2 (sur l’env) : rép (1 m end, gl 1 m comme pour la tric à l’env avec le fil derrière le travail) jusqu’à la fin du tour.
Rg 3 (sur l’end) : Tric toutes les mailles à l’endroit.
Rg 4 (sur l’env) : rép (gl 1 m comme pour la tric à l’env avec le fil derrière le travail, 1 m end) jusqu’à la fin du tour.

To knit the stitch pattern flat:
Row 1 (RS) : K all sts
Row 2 (WS) : repeat (K1, sl 1 purlwise with yarn in back) to end of round
Round 3 (RS) : K all sts
Round 4 (WS) : repeat (sl 1 purlwise with yarn in back, K1) to end of round

À plat, c’est presque encore plus facile, puisqu’on tricote toujours à l’endroit.

Knitted flat, it’s even easier, since you don’t purl at all.

J’avais tout de même envie d’essayer en deux couleurs, comme Nathalie. Mais en tricotant en aller-retours, ce n’est pas bien pratique de changer de fil à chaque rang.

I wanted to try working in two colours, like Nathalie. But when you knit flat, it’s not very practical to change yarns on every row.

J’ai donc testé une rayure :
Rgs 1 – 2 en gris anthracite
Rgs 3 – 4 en azalée

So I tried a stripe:
Rows 1 – 2 in charcoal
Rows 3 – 4 in azalea

Assez sympa, non ?

Une fois lancée dans les échantillons, j’ai toujours un peu du mal à m’arrêter. J’ai donc voulu tester le même genre de rayure, mais décalée d’un rang.

Once I’ve started swatching, I never want to stop. I wanted to test how the same stripe would work out if I shifted the starting point one row.

Donc :
Rg 1 : gris anthracite
Rgs 2 – 3 : jaune
Rg 4 : gris anthracite

So:
Row 1 : charcoal
Rows 2 – 3 : yellow
Row 4 : charcoal

Au lieu de changer de couleur en début d’un rang sur l’endroit, on change donc en début d’un rang sur l’envers.

Instead of changing colours at the beginning of a right side row, change colours at the beginning of a wrong side row.

Hm. Peut-être pas si intéressant que cela, la variation par rapport à la rayure précédente est plutôt discrète, me suis-je dit. Et puis, j’ai regardé l’envers :

Hm. Perhaps not very interesting, the difference compared to the previous stripe is rather subtle, I thought. But then, I looked at the wrong side:

Aussi joli que l’endroit ! J’adore les points réversibles !

As pretty as the right side ! I love reversible stitch patterns!
